Celebs help “MN Freedom Fund” raise $20 million to bail out arrested protesters

Many high profile celebrities have announced their donations to funds that help arrested protesters post bail. The Minnesota freedom fund has now announced they have raised around $20 million dollars.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund Website writes:
With solemn gratitude, we have been flooded with tens of thousands donations large and small, totalling around $20 million dollars. We did not ask for or anticipate this massive outpouring of support. We simply said yes to the call to support and bail out people jailed for protesting for justice for George Floyd.
We will walk with transparency and accountability to use those funds to first and foremost pay bail for those who have shown up in love and grief and rage to demand justice for the murder of George Floyd, and then to post bail in our community for those who are held pretrial simply because they cannot pay and to post bonds to free people from ICE detention.
We are dedicated to staying true to our central mission and the intent of these donations–which is freedom.
Per Variety following the death of George Floyd, many celebrities have come together to raise money for the Minnesota Freedom Fund and match donations made by others.
Floyd died on May 25 in Minneapolis after a police officer kept his knee on his neck for several minutes, despite Floyd saying he couldn’t breathe multiple times. The officer was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter a few days later. Three other police officers who were seen in the widely spread video were fired in connection to the incident.
All across social media, people have started making donations to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, an organization that provides funds to protestors who have been arrested and need to post bail.
After President Trump tweeted about it being “MAGA Night” at the White House after protestors gathered outside on Friday, Chrissy Teigen announced she would donate $100,000 to bail people out. She later upped her commitment to $200,000.
“In celebration of whatever the f— maga night is, I am committed to donating $100,000 to the bail outs of protestors across the country,” she wrote.
A Fox News segment covered 10 celebrities who donated to the Minnesota “freedom fund.”
Here are some of the many celebrities who tweeted about it.
